naturgucker.de is a non-profit registered cooperative based in Northeim , Lower Saxony. Since 2008 it has provided an internet platform for networking nature observers. Registered users can enter their own observations of birds, mammals, insects, plants or other organisms worldwide and exchange information about them, question observations or help each other. In 2012 the NABU regional associations of Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate joined the cooperative.

The aims of the platform are to promote nature, biotope and species protection as well as related youth, education and research work. The observation data recorded by users is therefore assigned to small-scale habitats and made freely accessible for nature conservation, education and research (e.g. for scientific studies on climate change). Naturgucker is therefore both an online community and a citizen science project.

The number of users of naturgucker.de in 2012 was 10,000 permanently and one-time registered observers. At the beginning of 2011, there were an average of 238 registered nature observations per user and year and 1.35 million page views of the website per month.

The platform of naturgucker.de is also made available to other cooperation partners, such as the NABU Hessen existed since 2009. cooperation also with NABU Federal Association and four other NABU regional associations, the GEO Biodiversity Day , the German Alpine Association , the country's Federation for the Protection of Birds Bavaria and other organizations.
