Necrophobia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As necrophobia is called an anxiety disorder in which you have developed a fear of death, the death and associated matters.

Symptoms and course

Symptoms of necrophobia include palpitations (faster pulse), tremors, dizziness, sweating, hot flashes and difficulty breathing. In the worst case, these can lead to panic attacks or even fainting. Fearful situations in which these consequences can occur include, for example, visits to the cemetery or funerals, which can be a problem for the person concerned.

causes

The cause of a phobia is basically that the person concerned has learned to associate the respective fearful object or the fearful situation with panic. This usually happens through traumatic or extremely negative experiences with the relevant object or situation. Often the object or situation is the cause of the negative experience, but not a necessity. Particularly in childhood experiences, stimulus couplings can occur in which negative events / experiences are linked to the randomly occurring object and which then becomes fearful without being causally responsible for the negative experience.

Another possible cause can be the excessive fear of one's own death, i.e. thanatophobia , which also triggers necrophobia.

therapy

Treatment must be based on the cause. The learned connection of the respective fear-filled object / fear-related situation is unlearned through careful desensitization. In a few severe cases, this can also be done through self-help.
