The English term network switching subsystem (abbreviated NSS) refers to a part of the GSM - mobile communications infrastructure . Its function is to switch calls or data connections within the base station subsystem or to partner networks such as the public telephone network .

Tasks and functionality

The NSS fulfills a whole range of tasks, for example the forwarding of phone calls to other mobile phone subscribers or to the landline network using the data from the VLR, the organization of the handover if a subscriber changes the cell during a transmission or the generation of billing information for the Provider .
