Power switch

Power switch (left) on an electrical device

A mains switch is a switch that disconnects a consumer ( consumable ) from the mains at least one pole .

There are different designs depending on the connected load to be switched and the type of consumer. After actuation of the power switch, the connected device uses - in contrast to the standby mode ( English standby ) - no more current. Power switches and their regular use are therefore an important contribution to saving energy .

If there is no power switch on a device, a switchable multiple socket outlet can be used instead.
