The Neue Weststadt is a ten-hectare area in Esslingen am Neckar that is being redeveloped in terms of urban planning. The area is located between Esslingen train station and the former Hengstenberg area and is directly adjacent to the western town development to the north .

Around 560 apartments and 1200 workplaces as well as a hotel are to be built on the site of the former freight station of Deutsche Bahn AG. An extensive park is to be created on the strip between the railway tracks and the Neckar, which can be reached via a new pedestrian bridge over the tracks from Weststadt. Animals that are under species protection are relocated. The first groundbreaking is expected in 2013.

The financing of the land purchase including ancillary costs and demolition work is provided by Wohnbau Stadt Esslingen GmbH (WSE), which has taken out loans in the amount of € 7,390,000. The annual interest charge is around € 359,000. WSE is owned by the city. The contact person for the interests of the citizens of the metropolitan area West town for the city administration and the council is the citizens' committee downtown .
