New shuttle train
New Pendelzug (NPZ) is the name given to Swiss regional train compositions that were built in slightly different versions between 1984 and 1996:
- New shuttle train / railcar SBB RBDe 4/4 + Bt (RBDe 560, 561, 562) of the Swiss Federal Railways
- New shuttle train / multiple unit SOB RBDe 566, of the Schweizerische Südostbahn AG, formerly Schweizerische Südostbahn
- New shuttle train / railcar TRAVYS RBDe 568, the Travys, formerly Chemin de fer Pont-Brassus
- New shuttle train / railcar MBS ET / ES 10, the Montafonerbahn (Vorarlberg, Austria)
So-called « private railway NPZ » were built between 1982 and 1992 for other Swiss private railway companies:
- Private railway NPZ / railcar BLS RBDe 565 of BLS AG, formerly BLS Lötschbergbahn, formerly BLS Group
- Private railway NPZ / railcar BLS RBDe 566 II of BLS AG, formerly Regionalverkehr Mittelland, formerly EBT group
- Private railway NPZ / SOB RBDe 566 multiple unit of the Schweizerische Südostbahn AG, formerly Bodensee – Toggenburg-Bahn
- Private railway NPZ / railcar TPF-TRN RBDe 567 of Transports publics fribourgeois and TRN SA
In more recent times, the abbreviation NPZ has been interpreted in some cases as "local transport commuter train", although the term local transport is not in use in Switzerland or refers to something different in terms of tariffs than in Germany (namely local transport).
