The cultural enterprise neuestheater.ch is a theater based in Dornach , which was founded in 2001 by Johanna Schwarz and Georg Darvas. The building is only a few meters from the border between the cantons of Basel-Landschaft and Solothurn , in the immediate vicinity of the Dornach-Arlesheim train station. It can be reached with the regional tram line 10 of the BLT and line 3 of the Basel S-Bahn .

history

In 2001, the “New Theater at the Station” (NTaB) opened in the former Dornach cinema at Amtshausstrasse 8 with a production of Shakespeare's Was Ihr wollt . With Johann Strauss' Fledermaus in 2003, the spectrum of in-house productions expanded to include music theater. In August 2011, the cinema building was demolished to make way for a new development at the Dornach-Arlesheim train station. The NTaB was given the opportunity to temporarily use the former printing works at Stollenrain 17 in Arlesheim.

On the site of the former “Bahnhofstübli” restaurant on Dornacher Bahnhofstrasse, which demolished in November 2013, a new building was realized as a permanent new seat, which was designed by the Basel architects Jeker Architekten SIA AG. The property was made available by the Edith Maryon Foundation under building law. The building owner and owner of the new building is the “Kultur am Bahnhof” foundation. The building is managed by “Kultur am Bahnhof AG”. The building was realized thanks to financial support from the public sector (Cantons of Solothurn , Basel-Landschaft and Basel-Stadt ; municipalities of Dornach , Arlesheim and Reinach ) and through foundations, from donations from private individuals and through a share of external financing. The new building was inaugurated in September 2015, and the theater company has been using the new name "neuestheater.ch" since May 2015

In addition to the 200-seat auditorium, the building also houses the information point of «Forum Schwarzbubenland», where tourist information on the Schwarzbubenland can be obtained. Since 2002, youth theater productions have been realized as part of the regular season program (since 2004 in collaboration with "Sprachhaus M"). In addition, guest performances by foreign groups and individuals are programmed, and groups from the independent scene in the Northwestern Switzerland region can develop their productions in cooperation with neuestheater.ch. The house is also involved in the planning of the festivals “wildwuchs”, “ZeitRäume”, the Basel Theater Festival and Culturescapes .

In January 2019 it was announced that Johanna Schwarz and Georg Darvas would retire from the management of the company in spring 2021. In September of the same year, the public was informed that the operating association would maintain the structure of the co-management and entrust the director Jonas Darvas and the cultural manager Daniel Wernli with official business from the beginning of the 2021/22 season.
