Neurothrombectomy

In the Neurothrombektomie is engagement of Neuroradiology of at, stroke is carried out, a special case of the thrombectomy . The blood clot in the brain is mechanically removed with a catheter ( neurothrombectomy catheter ) . At present, this procedure is usually only performed when the blood clot has reached a certain stage at which it can no longer be removed with medication alone. According to the President of the German Society for Neuroradiology, “more than 60 percent of patients with major strokes ... after catheter treatment can lead an independent life again after just three months. With drug therapy, this rate is only around 15 percent ”(quoted from). The use of neurothrombectomy could potentially be discussed in around 15 percent of ischemic strokes.
