action

Bella is scared of getting older because her vampire friend Edward will stay 17 forever but refuses to turn her into a vampire as well. That's why she wants as little fuss as possible to be made about her 18th birthday. But Edward's sister Alice throws a birthday party with the Cullens. When Bella accidentally cuts herself on the paper while unwrapping presents during this party, she is attacked by Edward's brother Jasper. The rest of the Cullens can stop him, but keep their distance themselves. Edward blames himself for the incident. Since he doesn't want to endanger Bella any further with his presence, he then leaves her.

Bella mourns Edward for months, barely noticing her surroundings and neglecting her friends. After her father Charlie suggests leaving Forks, she decides to go to Port Angeles with Jessica. There she believes she can see the men who threatened her the year before. As she approaches them, she suddenly sees Edward standing in front of her, warning her. She realizes that through these apparitions she can get closer to Edward again. To see him again, Bella puts herself in more danger. She buys two scrap-looking motorcycles, which she and Jacob Black repair. Jacob then teaches her to ride a motorcycle. A deep friendship develops between the two. For Bella, Jacob is the saving sun. He wishes that their friendship would become more.

Strange things happen in Jacob's clique. He's now part of a group he previously couldn't stand and whose leader is an older boy from the reservation named Sam Uley. Jacob breaks off contact with Bella. When she demands an explanation from him, Jacob rejects her. Bella then goes on a hike alone to a clearing in the forest, where she used to spend a lot of time with Edward. Once there, she is surprised by Laurent who she learns that he and Victoria want to kill her in revenge for James. However, Laurent is killed by a pack of huge wolves. Shortly thereafter, Bella discovers that it is a group of young Quileute Indians who have the ability to transform themselves into wolves, and that Jacob has recently become a member. After Bella let her in on the story of Victoria , the pack goes in search of her.

Bella decides to bring on another hallucination from Edward by jumping off a cliff. Jacob can save her from drowning. Alice, who saw Bella die in her vision, comes back to Forks to comfort Charlie. In doing so she finds - to her astonishment - a perfectly healthy, but exhausted Bella. Since Edward has since found out from Rosalie that Bella is no longer alive, he also wants to take his own life. He travels to Volterra in Italy, to the Volturi, a powerful family of vampires who operate the legislative and executive powers in the vampire world in order to be killed by them. Alice explains the situation to Bella and they both go on their way. Bella runs and fights for the last few minutes until noon, when Edward will stand in the sun. Just in time, she manages to save Edward and convince him that she is still alive. The Volturi guards Felix, Demetri and Jane ambush the two and bring them to their leaders Aro, Caius and Marcus.

The Volturi discover that Bella is immune to the supernatural powers of vampires. Since she also knows too much about the vampires, the Volturi demand that she either be killed or transformed. However, Alice uses a vision of the future to convince Aro that Bella would soon be a vampire, and they travel back to Forks unscathed.

The Cullens decide, against the voice of Edward and Rosalie, that Bella should become a vampire. Shortly afterwards, Jacob reminds Edward that the contract between the Quileute and the Cullens states that the Cullens must not bite people. When he sees what Bella has decided for, he walks away sad and disappointed in his wolf form. Edward promises Bella to turn her into a vampire if she marries him.

criticism

“The really fantastic and resistant, however, have no place in the soap opera of" New Moon ", which is far too good to be good. Sometimes the magical moon is just a big, round cheese. And smells pretty bad. "

"" New Moon "maintains the level of its predecessor and has even improved the quality of the action scenes. When implementing the material, the film, like the first part, is very much based on the novel. The impossible love between Bella and Edward in the modern fantasy garb works again and already makes you want to continue. "

"For everyone beyond the target group of" Team Edward "and" Team Jacob ", New Moon should therefore be quite a disappointment. While director Catherine Hardwicke had created a surreal atmosphere in the film adaptation of part one, which gave the love story between human child and vampire the right magical fairy tale look , this time Chris Weitz, who was responsible for spectacles like " The Golden Compass " , puts it all on Effects. About werewolves strolling through the woods like oversized shepherds, about blood-red lips on chalk-pale faces and a showdown in Montepulciano , Italy , where people dressed in red stride through the narrow medieval streets like a séance .

The fact that it was possible to shoot in the Renaissance church of San Biagio there is one of the few surprises in this otherwise largely surprise-free film. "

continuation

The third part of the Twilight saga was released on July 15, 2010 with the title Eclipse - Bis (s) zum Abendrot in German cinemas. The film premiered on June 24, 2010 in Los Angeles.
