New Zealand Electronic Text Collection

New Zealand Electronic Text Collection ( NZETC ) is a web portal and archive of the Victoria University of Wellington , New Zealand , on the text and images digitized books and digitally created text material of the university library all Internet users through search and directories to view and partly as download available be asked. The university essentially limits itself to texts and materials that relate to New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. The portal is not restricted to university students, but is freely accessible.

history

In February 2002 the Victoria University of Wellington announced the start of the New Zealand Electronic Text Collection project . Ms. Elizabeth Styron , who had already led a similar project as Assistant Director at the University of Virginia, was won over for the project . The project started with the digitization of the novels by Katherine Mansfield , a New Zealand writer and two employees, and planned to have six or seven permanent positions by the end of the year

In 2003 a new camera was purchased that was able to digitize formats with a size of 1.5 × 1.0 meters. In May 2005, a renewed web portal was launched, which was supposed to simplify and speed up the search and retrieval of texts.

In November, the completion of the digitization of the Transactions and Proceedings of the Royal Society of New Zealand with 65,000 entries from the years 1868 to 1961. In October 2008, the digitization of the first two volumes of The Cyclopedia of New Zealand , of which the first was announced The tape alone weighed 5.1 kilograms. The list of publications goes on.

Of the 309,393 digitized works - as of February 10, 2017 - 298,508 works were in English, 9995 works in Māori , 433 works in French, 245 works in German, 165 works in Rarotongan and 47 works in Latin. There were also a total of 87,681 digitized images.
