Nicolas Cage
Nicolas Cage , actually Nicholas Kim Coppola (born January 7, 1964 in Long Beach , California ) is an American actor , film producer and Oscar winner.
Life
Origin and early years
Cage's father is the Italian-American August Coppola. The ancestors of his mother, the dancer and choreographer Joy Vogelsang (born August 1, 1935 in Illinois / USA), come from the Cochem area on the Moselle. His mother suffered from severe depression , which also led to inpatient hospital stays. The couple divorced in 1976, but Cage always kept in good contact with his mother. Cage was interested in the movie business from early childhood. At the age of 15 he took professional acting lessons . Two years later, he dropped out of high school to focus on his career. Cage is the nephew of film director and producer Francis Ford Coppola and actress Talia Shire . He is thus a cousin of the filmmakers Sofia and Roman Coppola and of the late Gian-Carlo Coppola .
Acting career
He made his screen debut in 1982 in the comedy I think I'm standing in the woods .
A short time later he took the stage name Cage (after the comic -Figur Luke Cage ) in order not to give the impression that he would because of his famous uncle Francis Ford Coppola favors, or to prevent this effectively. Still, Coppola gave him a role in his 1983 film Rumble Fish .
After graduating from UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television , he appeared in the films Cotton Club , Valley Girl , Peggy Sue Married and Arizona Junior, among others. His breakthrough came in the late 1980s with the Oscar -prämierten comedy Moonstruck and in David Lynch's Wild at Heart , the best film of the Film Festival of Cannes in 1990 was excellent.
In 1996, Cage received the Oscar for Best Actor for Leaving Las Vegas .
The films The Rock - The Rock of Decision , Con Air , Face / Off - In the Body of the Enemy and Just 60 Seconds gave him four of his greatest successes at the box office in the following years. In 1998 he played alongside Meg Ryan in City of Angels , a remake of the Wim-Wenders film Der Himmel über Berlin .
Also in 2002 he received another Oscar nomination for adaptation - The Orchid Thief . He was also seen in the adventure film The Legacy of the Knights Templar . In 2006 the films Lord of War - Dealer of Death and World Trade Center came into German cinemas.
Since the 2010s, Cage has increasingly played in films that have no or only limited theatrical release. A large proportion of the productions are action films. His work includes more than 90 productions.
Cage was one of the top-earning male actors in Hollywood , according to Forbes Magazine . Between June 2007 and June 2008, he received $ 38 million in fees and ranked eighth behind Will Smith , Johnny Depp , Eddie Murphy , Mike Myers , Leonardo DiCaprio , Bruce Willis and Ben Stiller .
Cage is the owner of the production company Saturn Films , in whose films he also starred.
Private
From a relationship with actress Christina Fulton that began in 1988, he has a son, Weston Coppola "Arcane" Cage (* 1990), who sang in the black / death metal band Eyes of Noctum and is currently the lead singer and guitarist of the Oriental -Metal band is Arsh Anubis. In 1995, Cage married actress Patricia Arquette , and in 2001 he divorced her. In 2002 he married Lisa Marie Presley , the daughter of Elvis Presley and ex-wife of Michael Jackson , from whom he separated four months later. The divorce took place in 2004. In their third marriage, Cage was married from 2004 to 2016 to the restaurant worker Alice Kim, who gave birth to their son Kal-El, named after the Kryptonian name of Superman , on October 3, 2005 . Cage is an avowed fan of comics. Alice Kim made a cameo appearance in some of the films in which Cage starred, for example in Next , in which she played a woman from the audience while doing a magic trick. In March 2019, Cage married makeup artist Erika Koike in Las Vegas , whom he had been dating for a year, and had the marriage annulled after four days.
In 2006 Cage took over the lordship of the Barons von Brand, Neidstein Castle in Etzelwang near Amberg (Upper Palatinate). However, he sold the property in early 2009 due to financial difficulties. He also has a Bahama island .
On December 4, 2009, Cage was named Global Citizen of the Year by the United Nations for his humanitarian commitment to Amnesty International and was named an Ambassador of Goodwill.
Cage had, although he throughout his career total of over 150 million US dollars received in salaries, because of his lavish lifestyle (u. A. Through the purchase of exotic real estate) in 2009 no more cash, but instead 14 million US dollars tax liabilities.
