Nicolas Cage , actually Nicholas Kim Coppola (born January 7, 1964 in Long Beach , California ) is an American actor , film producer and Oscar winner.

Life

Origin and early years

Cage's father is the Italian-American August Coppola. The ancestors of his mother, the dancer and choreographer Joy Vogelsang (born August 1, 1935 in Illinois / USA), come from the Cochem area on the Moselle. His mother suffered from severe depression , which also led to inpatient hospital stays. The couple divorced in 1976, but Cage always kept in good contact with his mother. Cage was interested in the movie business from early childhood. At the age of 15 he took professional acting lessons . Two years later, he dropped out of high school to focus on his career. Cage is the nephew of film director and producer Francis Ford Coppola and actress Talia Shire . He is thus a cousin of the filmmakers Sofia and Roman Coppola and of the late Gian-Carlo Coppola .

Acting career

He made his screen debut in 1982 in the comedy I think I'm standing in the woods .

A short time later he took the stage name Cage (after the comic -Figur Luke Cage ) in order not to give the impression that he would because of his famous uncle Francis Ford Coppola favors, or to prevent this effectively. Still, Coppola gave him a role in his 1983 film Rumble Fish .
