The Niedersachsen Filmklappe (short: 'Filmklappe') is a school film festival for short films in Lower Saxony . The festival is organized regionally by the media consultants of the Lower Saxony cities and districts, which are coordinated by the Lower Saxony State Institute for School Quality Development (NLQ) . Participants are the winners from the regional film clapboard competitions.

The Lower Saxony film flap emerged from a local short film competition for schoolchildren of all school types and ages, which was organized by the media center in Aurich in 2002 . The idea of ​​the initiator Franz Traxler, who died in 2009, was the following: “The starting point for media education is the realization that the narrative forms of the medium film are subject to their own rules, but they are far from exhausted. Children and young people take up the common narrative forms, change and redesign them in their own way with cell phones and video cameras. On the other hand, they do not receive the attention that literary forms of expression have long been given. Big ones next to small ones, high school students next to special needs students should be on stage and be recognized for their ideas and their commitment, their films will be shown on the big screen. The focus should not be on the individual performance, but on the story that is being told. Regardless of whether a teacher is the initiator of the class or whether students try out the camera and the editing suite in their free time. The focus is not on the cinematic debut, but on age and performance-related commitment. "

Other media centers joined the concept through Medienberatung Niedersachsen and organized the regional film flaps.

The prizes are usually awarded in five categories:
