The Nigerian National Mosque is a mosque in the Nigerian capital, Abuja .

The mosque was built in 1984 as part of the construction of the planned capital Abuja. According to the plans of the city planners, it should be located in the “cultural sector” of the city and face the ecumenical cathedral in the approximately symmetrically designed city center on Independence Avenue , which was only inaugurated 16 years after construction began in October 2005.

The national mosque shapes the cityscape of Abuja with its golden dome and the four high minarets . The mosque has a prayer hall, a library, a conference hall and a religious school.
