Nikarete from Megara
Nikarete came from a respected family in Megara . She was a student of the philosopher Stilpon and appears in the sources as his hetaera . Likewise, as a hetaera, she is said to have associated with the Greek orator Stephanos , which is, however, probably a confusion with the hetaera Neaira , who had previously belonged to a woman named Nikarete . Her relationship with Stilpon earned her the ridicule of the comedy writer Krates . According to his claim, it was "common property" of the Stilpon school of philosophy.
