The subdistricts and regions of the northern district

The Northern District , also Northern District ( Arabic منطقة الشمال, DMG Minṭaqat asch-Shamal , Hebrew מחוז הצפון Mechos haZafon ) is one of the six districts in the State of Israel . It has an area of ​​4473 km². District capital is Nof HaGalil , the largest city is Nazareth .

The Golan Heights are counted as part of Israel by the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), which is why they are considered part of the Northern District in administrative matters. The United Nations does not recognize this, as the prerequisite for recognition would be Syria's consent to the Israeli annexation of the Golan Heights.

Demographics

The northern district is the only district in Israel with an Arab majority.
