Northern Soul (United States)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term Northern Soul is true in the United States as a synonym for soul music from Detroit (especially the Motown label) and Chicago as opposed to Southern Soul of Memphis ( Stax Records ). However, these terms are rarely used. The terms that prevailed for the soul genres mostly refer directly to the labels or the places in which the labels were based: Detroit (soul) or Motown, Chicago (soul) or Memphis .
