Nullum testamentum

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term nullum testamentum is an old legal principle of inheritance law. According to this, there could only be inheritance within the family of the testator . This principle did not allow wills that allow inheritance outside the family.

The formulation is based on the following sentence of Germania about the private life of the Teutons: "heredes tamen successoresque sui cuique liberi, et nullum testamentum."
