Ny York (Oslo)
Coordinates: 59 ° 55 ' N , 10 ° 45' E
Ny York was originally a humorous name for the southwestern and oldest area of the Oslo district of Grünerløkka . It is bordered by the streets Nordre gate , Markveien and the Akerselv river . The district was built in a short time in 1858, before the city expansion of Oslo, and as a building ensemble is subject to monument protection. The buildings are designed as wooden houses in block construction and one reason for their rapid construction was the compulsion to only build stone houses within the city limits. The name Ny York is still in use. For example, the Ny York Times is a quarterly newspaper for the Stolmakergata Housing Association.
