Furnace sorting

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In porcelain production , oven sorting refers to the qualitative sorting of the porcelain coming out of the kiln before further processing.

At the end of the biscuit firing, the faulty parts are sorted out. In addition to the rejects that cannot be used for further production , there are parts that are defective but are well suited for the manufacture of certain articles. For example, parts with black spots cannot be used to make white porcelain. If a decoration is applied in a later production step that covers the stain, the part can be used for this decoration.

The furnace sorters are skilled workers. You not only judge the quality of the porcelain, but also need knowledge of the subsequent production steps and the current range in order to be able to decide which parts can be used for which purpose. Their work can minimize the reject rate and thus improve the cost-effectiveness of production. The reject rate for further production is also influenced by the work of the furnace sorters.
