Ogólnopolskie Porozumienie Związków Zawodowych
The Ogólnopolskie Porozumienie Związków Zawodowych ( OPZZ ; German All-Poland Trade Union Federation ) was founded on November 24, 1984 on the basis of the Trade Union Act of October 8, 1982, which banned the Solidarność (NSZZ) trade union federation . The OPZZ took over the assets of Solidarność at the time and has been a member of the World Trade Union Federation since 1985 . Until 1990 the OPZZ was strictly subordinate to the Polish United Workers' Party (PZPR).
After the political change in 1989 and the dissolution of the PZPR, the OPZZ formed an electoral alliance with the Alliance of the Democratic Left (SLD) between 1991 and 1997 . At the moment, the OPZZ consists mainly of trade unions that are close to the SLD. In February 2003, 104 national associations and trade unions with a total of around 800,000 members belonged to it. Of the twelve sectors summarized in the OPZZ, the energy and mining industries (especially coal and copper), the processing industry and the education, science and culture sectors are most strongly represented.
The highest governing bodies of the OPZZ are the Congress, the Council, the Presidium and the Revision Commission.
The OPZZ is a member of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC). In the membership list of the IGB, membership is given as 320,000 (as of November 2017).
