Grandma Skat (also known as Skat for the blind or Skat with a dead man ) is a variant of the Skat card game for two players, which is particularly widespread in the Lüneburg Heath . Grandma Skat is also played in other parts of Germany , albeit under different, regionally different names. Mostly the game is played for lack of a third player, but sometimes it is also played to teach beginners the game, as the gameplay is easier than with conventional Skat.

The game is played like a normal Skat game, but instead of a third player, a face-down deck of cards (the "grandma") is used, of which the top card is revealed in each round. The “grandma” always immediately says “away” when the stimulus occurs. that is, she does not irritate the two players. They have to “exhaust” whoever “plays”, so the “grandma” and a human teammate always play against the other human teammate. Otherwise the usual Skat rules apply, whereby the "grandma" does not have to serve, of course. This fact makes many situations unthinkable in the normal game of Skat possible; so it is In Grandma Skat, for example, it is very difficult to win a “zero” (= not getting a trick) because Grandma doesn't have to serve.
