Onancock is a city in the US state of Virginia with 1266 inhabitants (2016). The city is located in rural Accomack County on Chesapeake Bay and has a small port.

In 1680 the city was founded as Port Scarborough . The current place name is of Indian origin and means something like foggy place .

At the head of the city administration is the elected mayor, to whom the city council is subordinate. The decisions of the city council are carried out by the town manager .
