OpenPHPNuke (OPN) is a free content management system developed in PHP that supports various databases .
Brief description
With OpenPHPNuke, the content of a website can be easily managed via a browser . It has a modular structure and, with well over 100 different module applications, offers the possibility of meeting almost any requirement.
Unlike other PHP-Nuke - splits the modularization has been completed up to the last bit of the system. Current techniques are used to meet the security requirements of today's Internet applications. A Unix- like rights system is used for user and rights management . Comprehensive administration tools make daily operations easier.
History
The beginnings
The roots of OpenPHPNuke lie in version 4 of PHP-Nuke or its derivative MyPHPNuke (MPN), from whose code the cornerstone of OpenPHPNuke was laid. Unsatisfied with the development, some German developers began to implement their own ideas. The name OpenPHPNuke was quickly found. Apart from the similarity of the name, OpenPHPNuke has nothing to do with the origins themselves.
OpenPHPNuke
Compared to PHP-Nuke, OpenPHPNuke breaks new ground in many ways by completely overhauling the entire system. Code standards were created for programming, the HTML code was largely adapted to today's web standards , and the separation of content and layout was initiated . All modules are validated according to the XHTML standard. The PHP warnings suppressed in many other systems (which are at the expense of the web server) are displayed under OPN and referred to as bugs. By consistently eliminating these error messages, OPN gains in performance.
From December 2001 to September 2003 the three-person programming team worked on completing the first release , supported by around 30 active beta testers. In contrast to other systems, the beta test was not carried out publicly in order to increase the quality of the code in a quiet atmosphere.
With the release of the Release Candidate (RC1) in September 2003, OPN went public. Version 1.0.0 was released shortly afterwards. As a special feature, the Subversion version program was started to be used. Since then, we have been working on improvements and further developments.
