Open law

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Openjur (its own spelling also: openJur ) is a free legal specialist database that started operating in December 2008.

Content

The database contains more than 300,000 court decisions and over 130 laws (as of July 2014). Various courts regularly contribute new decisions to the inventory.

Sponsoring association

After many courts initially refused to contribute decisions to Openjur free of charge due to imputed economic interests, the initiators of Openjur decided to ensure the operation and non-profit status of the database by founding a non-profit association. This association was founded in February 2009 and has operated the database ever since. As part of the 18th EDV Court Day 2009 in Saarbrücken from 23 to 25 September 2009, Openjur was awarded the young talent award for the “Best Free Legal Internet Project 2009”.

According to its statutes, the purpose of the association "openJur eV" is "to promote the creation, collection and dissemination of free legal content in selfless activity in order to promote equal opportunities in access to knowledge and education".

License

The decisions and legal norms as such are official works according to § 5 Abs. 1 UrhG and therefore in the public domain . However, “openJur eV” has placed the database itself under the Creative Commons 3.0 license in order to guarantee the free use of the content.
