Victim support center (Liechtenstein)

The Victims Assistance Office (OHS) has been a central contact point for victims of crime in the Principality of Liechtenstein since April 1, 2008. Victim assistance is generally only provided on a subsidiary basis to another obligated person or institution (Art 4 OHG).

Aim and task of the victim support center

The main objective of the victim support center is to provide the victim and relatives of a crime with confidential and comprehensive support. Counseling can also be provided anonymously for the victims.

  • Consultation,
  • Information about the services, rights and obligations of victims in administrative and judicial proceedings,
  • Assistance in filling out simple applications, entries and forms,
  • Help for the most urgent needs that arise as a result of the crime,
  • appropriate other medical, psychological, social, material and legal help,
  • Accompanying victims,
  • Representation by proxy in court,
  • Contacting a potential victim or relatives.

The victim support center is available around the clock for urgent assistance (police emergency number). The services of the victim support center can be used indefinitely.

Victim assistance

Victim assistance can be claimed by anyone in the Principality of Liechtenstein, regardless of the victim's citizenship, who has been directly impaired or injured in his or her physical, psychological or sexual integrity as a result of a criminal act. Close relatives and " persons whose physical or psychological integrity was directly impaired by providing or attempting help to victims " are also entitled . If the crime was committed abroad, " the victim and his relatives are entitled to assistance (...), provided that the person entitled to claim was resident in Liechtenstein at the time of the crime and at the time of the application. " And in addition to victim assistance from the state, in who the crime was committed.

The victim support center is open to both women and men who have experienced violence. The victim agency has issued a separate information sheet for men who have experienced an act of violence. For men, the association for men's questions also serves as a point of contact.

Form of victim support

Victim support is carried out by the victim support office in accordance with Art. 2 OHG

provided.

In the first ten years - from 2008 to 2018 - around 1,000 consultations were carried out. Barbara Banzer has been the head of the victim support center since the beginning.
