Location of Moors in Liechtenstein

The sacrificial site of Mauren , in the north of the Principality of Liechtenstein , was discovered in 2013 during excavation work. The ceramic and metal objects were offered with burned bones as sacrifices about 3000 years ago . The site is on the edge of a former standing body of water that has now silted up.

All in all, around 25 different containers were recovered. Some were broken, but should be nearly complete. Only individual shards could be recovered from others. In five cases there was a second, smaller one inside a larger vessel. Fragments of burned bones and charcoal were found in several vessels. In addition to the ceramics, some metal objects were found.

The finds can be dated to the late Bronze Age and the beginning of the Iron Age (13th - 8th / 7th centuries BC). In Moors, objects are likely to have been deposited on the bank of a small lake or bog over a long period of time.
