Oppositio

The Oppositio ( Latin : oppositio : opposition) is a rhetorical figure .

The term is used synonymously with antithesis , but has another meaning. Oppositio is used when negative and positive aspects are combined in a statement, for example in the sentence He is not poor, he is very rich.

The opposition is a means of amplification . It is often used in medieval literature and the Bible .
