Oren E. Long

Oren Ethelbirt Long (born March 4, 1889 in Altoona , Wilson County , Kansas , † May 6, 1965 in Honolulu , Hawaii ) was an American politician and member of the Democratic Party .

Long was born in Altoona, Kansas in 1889. He attended Johnson College in Kimberlin Heights , Tennessee and studied at the University of Michigan and Columbia University in New York City . In 1951, Harry S. Truman made him the tenth Territorial Governor of Hawaii. He held this office until 1953.

On July 28, 1959, he was elected to the US Senate for the new state of Hawaii . Long took office on August 21 and held his seat until 1963. He did not run for re-election.

Long died in Honolulu on May 6, 1965.
