from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Organization of Rural Associations for Progress ( ORAP ) is a non-governmental organization in Zimbabwe that is committed to the development of the local population in the poorest provinces of the country.

history

The organization was founded shortly after Zimbabwe gained independence in 1980 and was officially registered in 1981. In 1993 she received the Right Livelihood Award (Alternative Nobel Prize).

aims

The Organization of Rural Associations for Progress wants to combat all forms of poverty and hunger in the rural population. She sees the loss of traditional culture, language and way of life as the cause.

activity

The organization is active in the provinces of North and South Matabeleland and Midlands. Due to bad climatic conditions and a lack of natural resources, these are the poorest in Zimbabwe. ORAP wants to enable people to be able to provide for their own livelihood, especially through simple rural agriculture.

The organization runs educational programs and trainings for self-activation and mobilization. It supports agricultural projects through microcredits and professional advice. To this end, it provides direct humanitarian aid with food, clean water and technical support. It offers help for families and children in emergency situations.
