Orraon

Orraon (Greek Όρραον) was an ancient city in Epirus . Its ruins are 4 kilometers north of Arta near the village of Ammotopos.

Orraon was founded between 385 and 370 BC. Founded as a fortified city by the Molossian king Alketas I. The small town was founded in 167 BC. Captured and destroyed by the Romans , but later rebuilt. Orraon fell into disrepair when Emperor Augustus moved its inhabitants into the 31 BC. BC the newly founded colony Nicopolis was resettled.
