OsxTrojan / 1a

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

osxTrojan / 1a was the first proof of concept of a possible malicious program for the macOS operating system . It was published on March 21, 2004 by Bo Lindbergh on the comp.sys.mac.programmer.misc newsgroup . However, there is no known malware that actually exploited the demonstrated concept.

functionality

The Trojan could pretend to be a different file type by exploiting a security hole. For example, the Trojan used the iTunes icon for MP3 files and the file extension .mp3. Mainly the file name was song.mp3used.

When the Trojan was executed, an independent application with its own engine was started. This Trojan from 2004 was only a proof of concept and therefore not harmful.

Apple fixed the vulnerability exploited by the Trojan with the upgrade to Mac OS X 10.3 Panther.
