The over house

The Over-Haus is a historic house in Bergheim- Mitte, at Hauptstraße 91.

Building history and architecture

House No. 91 is a two-story plastered building with five axes from the end of the 18th century. The stucco decorations were added at the end of the 19th century. The gate passage with the knight's helmet in the top bears witness to the commercial use of the building. In 1799 the beer merchant Paul Muller lived here. In the second half of the 19th century, the Bergheimerdorf-based master roofer Wilhelm Over bought the house and set up his company headquarters here.

use

The business stayed in the family. Because his son Wilhelm Over Junior, who was born in Bergheimerdorf in 1870, started his apprenticeship with his father in 1885 and took over the roofing business from him in 1896. In 1901 he founded the guild of the roofing and building plumbing trade of the Bergheim district and was its "chief master" for 33 years. Wilhelm Over Junior led the craft business in house no. 91 to a significance that reached far beyond the district.

In the 1950s, the company moved from Hauptstrasse to Bethlehemer Strasse. The house remained in the possession of the Over family until 1985, but was then sold. A clothing store was housed on the ground floor.
