PISA parent study

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The PISA Parent Study measures the math proficiency of parents of students who have participated in PISA school performance assessments. Contrary to what the name PISA (with I = international) suggests, it is a national, German study.

Carrying out the study

The PISA parent study Mathematical Literacy in Adults was carried out as a DFG study by the Leibniz Institute for Science Education .

Three areas are to be tested:

  • Recording of mathematical literacy in a sample
  • Investigation of connections between mathematical competence and mathematics-related parental behavior
  • Analysis of the connections between the mathematical competence of parents and the attitude, motivation and performance of their children in mathematics

The study is linked to the German supplementary study to PISA 2003, PISA-E . The parents of students from 25 schools who were presented with a selection of the test items are included.

First results

Results published so far are:

  • There is a positive correlation with the children's competence values, i. H. Children tend to show higher competence scores in mathematics when the parents show higher competence.
  • There is a positive correlation between parental math skills and the appreciation of math.
  • There is a negative correlation between parental mathematics competence and mathematics-related pressure to perform: Parents with high mathematical competence exert less pressure to perform.
