PROBADO is a project funded by the DFG in the funding area "Performance Centers for Research Information" (subject area "Digital text and data centers for collecting, securing and providing digital sources and data bases for research and teaching"). The project deals with the development of tools for the prototype operation of a service for the automatic indexing, storage and provision of non-textual document types.

Motivation and Goals

The use of complex, non-textual data and documents is becoming more and more important. However, today's digital libraries do not optimally support this data because they start from documents that can be described textually. The aim of the PROBADO project is to develop and build a service for non-textual documents for academic libraries and to integrate it permanently into the library process chain. A special interest is given to the semi-automatic indexing of the documents, i. H. the enrichment through metadata.

In order to reference the non-textual documents, they will be citable by assigning unique identifiers. PROBADO provides design methods for the search query and the presentation of results. The fields of application will be in music and 3D computer graphics. The service that has been developed allows integrated, cross-domain access to all types of documents, but at the same time supports special procedures that depend on the document types. The PROBADO platform is also used for other document types such as B. graphics, video, animation or special primary data can be expanded.
