The Palácio Valada-Azambuja (also: Palácio dos Condes de Azambuja ) is a former noble palace in the municipality of Misericórdia in the Portuguese capital Lisbon .

history

A first palace built in the 16th century was destroyed in the 1755 earthquake. On its ruins on the south side of Largo do Calhariz , today's building was built on a U-shaped floor plan. Despite various modifications, it retained the facade typical of an 18th century palace. In the atrium at the entrance, the walls are decorated with azulejos from the 18th century.

From 1925 it was the seat of the newspaper A Luta , run by Brito Camacho , and today it houses the Biblioteca Municipal Camões . In February 1982 the building was granted the status of Imóvel de Interest Público .
