Palmer Drought Index
The Palmer Drought Index (Palmer Drought Index, also Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI) ) is the most widely used index for drought . It is divided into eleven levels and is used by many US government institutions. The PDSI was developed by Wayne C. Palmer in the 1960s and published in 1965. The index has since been further developed and modified several times and is now used in addition to other indices such as the Standard Precipitation Index (SPI) or the Reclamation Drought Index (RDI) or supplemented by these.
