Armored rifle barrel 8.8 cm

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The PD 8.8 cm anti-tank rifle barrel was a German anti -tank weapon mounted on fighter aircraft during World War II .

Technically, the construction was based on the infantry Panzerschreck rocket armored rifle, which in turn was based on the American Bazooka . The infantry weapon was redesigned for use as an external load on the aircraft. A hollow charge bullet was fired.

Four armored rifle tubes were mounted under the two wing stations of a Focke-Wulf Fw 190 F-8. So a total of eight missiles were carried. In use, however, it turned out to be a disadvantage that the aircraft had to reduce its speed to 490 km / h to attack the target, which made the machine an easier target for opposing fighters. A mass production of this weapon did not take place.
