Papias (general)
Papias was a Roman admiral who lived in the 1st century BC. Fought on the side of Sextus Pompey during the Roman Civil War.
Papias is mentioned several times by Appian in his work on the Roman civil wars ( Emphylia (Ἐμφύλια "civil wars")) when describing the war for Sicily. There he attacked in 36 BC. BC the invasion fleet of Marcus Aemilius Lepidus off the southwest coast of Sicily, but could not prevent their landing on Sicily, although he inflicted heavy losses on it. In August of the same year he commanded the fleet of Sextus Pompeius in the naval battle of Mylae against Octavian's fleet leader Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa .
