Parpar

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Parpar is the name of a river in Damascus in Biblical Times ( 2 Kings 5.12  EU ). His current name is probably Nahr el-Avaj .

Apart from the Barada (which is equated with the Abana ), the Parpar is the only river in the Damascus area.

The smaller rivers that unite and form the Avaj originate on the eastern slopes of the Hermon and flow together about 30 km southwest of Damascus. The river then meanders through a deep rocky river bed until it finally loses itself in a swamp southeast of Damascus. The length including springs is 64 km.

Objection to the equation with Nahr el-Avaj

Since the Avaj in the south only approaches up to 15 km, it is actually not a "Stream of Damascus". For this reason, some prefer to equate the Parpar with the Nahr Taura , a tributary of the Nahr Barada .
