The Partia Demokratieyczna - demokraci.pl (dt. Democratic Party , PD) was a left-liberal political party in Poland . It emerged in 2005 from the Unia Wolności (UW), which was created in 1993 from a merger of the Unia Demokratyczna (UD) and the Kongres Liberalno-Demokratieyczny (KLD). On November 12, 2016, the PD merged with the PO spin-off Europejscy Demokraci (European Democrats) to form Unia Europejskich Demokratieów .
history
At the beginning of 2005 the Unia Wolności was transformed into Partia Demokratyczna - demokraci.pl . The new PD sat down as the only political party in Poland against the holding of the government Leszek Miller on the Treaty of Nice , and stood for the rapid ratification of the EU Constitutional Treaty .
In 2006 the PD merged with the social democratic parties Sojusz Lewicy Demokratycznej (SLD) and Socjaldemokracja Polska (SdPL) as well as the left-wing Unia Pracy ( UP ) to form the political alliance Lewica i Demokraci ( LiD ). Thanks to this alliance, the PD received three seats in the Sejm after the 2007 parliamentary elections . After Wojciech Olejniczak announced the end of the cooperation between the SLD and the PD within the framework of the LiD on March 29, 2008 and the SdPL also split from the LiD on April 19, 2008 , this meant the de facto end of the LiD and on April 22nd the faction in the Sejm formally dissolved. In response, the PD founded the so-called Democratic Circle of Representatives .
From February 2009 to June of the same year, the PD worked with the social democratic SdPL and the Zieloni 2004 in the election initiative Porozumienie dla Przyszłości - CentroLewica ( Unification for the Future , PdP for short ), a kind of center-left alliance. This promised a higher chance of a return to the European Parliament. The expectations were not achieved, so that the PD in the European elections in Poland in 2009 from the European Parliament eliminated. The PD was up to the fusion member of the liberal Europe Party ALDE .
