Partido Alto

The Partido Alto is a sub-genre of Samba . It originated in Rio de Janeiro in the 1930s.

The rhythm pattern is two bars, whereby the two bars have very different characters due to their offbeat / downbeat distribution.

The patterns of the individual instruments are based on the "direction" of the Partido Alto, which it specifies with its offbeats and downbeats. It is important here that the Partido Alto approach differs from the clave concept, which is typical for Afro-Cuban music. In Brazilian music, the accents are freely interchangeable and some accompanying rhythms from the samba can also be used in the partido alto. The Partido Alto is often played explicitly with the Cuica .
