Partido Socialista Puertorriqueño

The Partido Socialista Puertorriqueño was a political party in Puerto Rico that was active between 1971 and 1993.

history

The party was founded on November 28, 1971 at the eighth assembly of the Movement for Independence (Movimiento Pro Independencia MPI). The main leader of the party was Juan Mari Brás . The Senator ran for governor together with Carlos Gallisá in the 1980 elections in 1976. The party called for full independence for Puerto Rico and a socialist government for the country. In the 1980 election, the Partido Socialista Puertorriqueno achieved just under 5% of the votes cast.
