Password list

A password list (often called a wordlist) is a list of words that can be tried as a password . These lists can be generated with programs that create random combinations of letters and numbers or they can also be real dictionaries. These lists are then used with the help of crack programs for so-called dictionary attacks.

There are lists that contain names and terms on different genres. There are lists from Star Trek , Lord of the Rings and other popular areas. The password lists are usually saved as .txt files as they do not contain any formatting. They are popular objects in file sharing networks such as eDonkey or eMule.
