Past Perfect Simple
The past perfect simple is a tense of verbs in the English language . The German equivalent of the Past Perfect Simple is the pluperfect .

All persons use had - the simple past of to have - and the root word with the suffix "-ed" .
Example:
1st person singular: I had listened .
2nd person singular: You had listened .
3rd person singular: He / She / It had listened .
1st person plural: We had listened .
2nd person plural: You had listened .
3rd person plural: They had listened .
Attention! There are also irregular verbs , such as "to speak" :
1st person singular: I had spoken .
2nd person singular: You had spoken .
3rd person singular: He / She / It had spoken .
1st person plural: We had spoken .
2nd person plural: You had spoken .
3rd person plural: They had spoken .
negation
The negative is formed with "had not" (or "hadn't" for short ).
Example:
1st person singular: I had not spoken .
2nd person singular: You had not spoken .
3rd person singular: He / She / It had not spoken .
1st person plural: We had not spoken .
2nd person plural: You had not spoken .
3rd person plural: They had not spoken
question
A “had” is placed in front of the question form .
Example:
1st person singular: Had I spoken ?
2nd person singular: Had you spoken ?
3rd person singular: Had he / she / it spoken ?
1st person plural: Had we spoken ?
2nd person plural: Had you spoken ?
3rd person plural: Had they spoken ?
