Paul F. Heard (born October 13, 1913 in Olivia , Minnesota , † February 27, 1964 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American film producer , director and author who was nominated for an Oscar in 1950 .

biography

In his first film production, Edward L. Cahn's 1949 drama Prejudice , Heard was named as executive producer. With his documentary Kenji Comes Home from the same year, Heard was nominated for an Oscar in 1950 , but it went to the Crown Film Unit and the British documentary Daybreak in Udi , which reports on the construction of a maternity hospital in the area of ​​the Udi tribe. The documentary feature film Kenji Comes Home paints a picture of the soldier Kenji returning from the Second World War , who falls in love with a Christian woman, which not only changes his view of many things, but also comes with various difficulties.

Heard also directed the 1958 short film drama The Broken Mask . The film, which takes up the topic of racism , shows a way to approach one another. This work was followed by the mystery drama The Death Trap of Hong Kong , in which Heard appeared in three roles, as producer, director and writer. Heard's last listed work is the short film drama The Secret of the Gift from 1959, for which he worked as a writer in addition to his production activities.

Paul F. Heard, who died in 1964 at the age of 51, is buried under the lawn in Altadena , Los Angeles County, Lot 2198, Grave 3.
