Paul (alchemist)
Paulus is the name of the first alchemist in Germany from whom news has been received. Adam von Bremen reports in his chronicle that in 1063 a baptized Jew named Paul appeared at the court of Bishop Adalbert von Bremen , who claimed to have learned in Greece how to make gold from copper. He gained quite a bit of influence over Adalbert but was then expelled as a cheater. After that there are reports of alchemists in Germany only in the 13th century.
