Persoonlijkheden in het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden in woord en beeld ( Personalities in the Kingdom of the Netherlands in words and pictures ) is a Dutch dictionary of persons that was published in 1938 by the Amsterdam publisher Van Holkema & Warendorf. It contains about 6,000 portraits of contemporary Dutch people on almost 1,750 pages, most of them with a photo. A significant proportion of the entries relate to freelancers, including a few people from the colonies of the time, especially the Dutch East Indies . A special feature is the indication of the full address at the end of the vast majority of the portraits, and family members and hobbies are also often listed. The lexicon is introduced with a highlighted presentation of the royal family at the time, and a supplement is included that contains people who did not make it to the print in the book.
The editor-in-chief was taken over by Henricus Petrus van den Aardweg, who otherwise worked as a biographer, poet, novelist and critic. History professor emeritus Hajo Brugmans ( University of Amsterdam ) wrote an introduction. Persoonlijkheden in het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden in woord en beeld was no longer directly continued, but is now referenced by university internet projects or used directly as a source of material. Parlement.com, a website maintained by the “Parlementair Documentatie Centrum” (PDC UL, Parliamentary Documentation Center) of the University of Leiden , refers to the lexicon in its literature references; the “Instituut voor Nederlandse Geschiedenis” (Institute for Dutch History) uses numerous photos from the lexicon for the biographies listed there.
