Peter C. Bloth

Peter C. Bloth (born June 11, 1931 in Verchen , Pomerania; † September 1, 2012 in Berlin ) was a German Protestant theologian .

Bloth was a son of the theologian and historian Hugo Gotthard Bloth . After graduating from high school at the State Humanistic Gymnasium in Minden / Westphalia in 1951, he studied Protestant theology and German studies in Mainz, Erlangen and Münster. During this time he became a member of the Christian student associations Mainzer Wingolf and Erlanger Wingolf . He received his doctorate with a thesis on the Bremen school dispute. Between 1964 and 1967, Bloth completed his habilitation in practical theology at the newly founded Ruhr University in Bochum with the subject: "Religion in the schools of Prussia". In Bochum he then worked as a private lecturer and miner pastor. In 1971 he was appointed full professor at the Church University in Berlin . He was elected rector of the church college three times. In 1993 he received a chair for practical theology at the Humboldt University and became a university preacher there.

After his retirement he became a visiting professor at the University of Tartu (Estonia).

Bloth was a member of the synods in Berlin-Brandenburg, the EKU and the EKD . In 1973 he was co-founder and since 1990 board member of the Scientific Society for Theology .
