Life

Peter Hertel comes from a musical family. His father, Günter Hertel (1917–1980), ran a small-scale printing company in Freiberg and founded the 1st symphony orchestra of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg in 1948 with the “Collegium Musicum”. Until his untimely death he was the conductor, organizer and spiritus rector of this orchestra. Peter Hertel had been interested in archeology and cultural history since the 1960s. In June 1973 he founded the Archive for Civilization Research in Freiberg .

The starting point for this decision was, in addition to the personal interest in the achievements of the ancestors, the increasing reports in the press about the hypothetical visit of extraterrestrial space travelers on earth. The reports on this topic increased and Peter Hertel continued to expand his extensive collection of literature, newspaper clippings, photos and interviews. Finally, in the summer of 1973, the Däniken film Memories of the Future was released in cinemas.

In order to create a counterpoint to the fantastic stories about the former visit of aliens on earth and to create a podium for those interested, Peter Hertel founded the group for utopian and scientific fiction in 1973 in the Freundeskreis Literatur of the Freiberg Kulturbund , which he headed until 1982. The group still exists today as the Freundeskreis Alte Kulturen under the leadership of Andreas Müller.

From 1975 to 1991 Peter Hertel worked in various clubs of the Kulturbund, including in Dresden, Leipzig, Erfurt, Weimar, Jena, Suhl, Magdeburg, Stralsund, in various Urania lecture centers, in youth and student clubs and at other public organizers up to held about 300 slide shows.

In 1979 Peter Hertel gave up his professional activity as an engineer and from then on worked with a state license as a freelance journalist, lecturer, writer, filmmaker and world traveler. For his books and lectures he traveled to the following places, among others: 1979 surveying of the Boitiner stone circles (Mecklenburg), 1986 Budapest (film about Aquincum), 1985 and 1987 Romanian Carpathians (Daker film), 1989 island of Malta (TV film), 1990 island of Samos ( Tunnel of Eupalinos with excavator Dr. Kienast) and Ephesus, 1991 Etruscan cities, Rome, Pompeii (Pompeii film) and Venice, 1993 island of Crete and the palaces of the Minoans (Crete film), 1994 Greece, mainland, Peloponnese (wonder of the world), 1995 west coast of Turkey (wonder of the world ), 1998 Norway (rock art), 1999 Tunisia (Carthage), 2000 France (Carnac), 2001 Italy, Pompeii, Vesuvius, 2002 England, Stonehenge, Hadrian's Wall, 2003/4/7/10 Easter Island, 2005 Africa (Zimbabwe), 2007 Cyprus, 2009 France, Italy and Egypt, 2010 Istanbul (Turkey), 2011 Cambodia (Angkor), 2013 Croatia and 2014 Greece (Corfu).
