Peter Maria Vogt (born January 21, 1958 in Braunschweig ) is a German doctor for plastic surgery. He is the director of the Clinic for Plastic, Hand and Reconstructive Surgery at the Hannover Medical School.

Life

Peter Vogt attended the Wöhlerschule in Frankfurt (1965–1971) and the grammar school in Erftstadt , where he obtained the general university entrance qualification in 1977. He studied medicine at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and passed the state examination in 1983. He was approved on November 24, 1983 and in October 1984 in Frankfurt am Main as Dr. med. PhD . From 1984 to 1985 he did his military service as a troop doctor in a pioneer battalion in Lahnstein. From 1985 to 1991, he completed further training as a specialist in surgery at the university clinics in Lübeck and Hanover.

After becoming a specialist in surgery in 1991, Vogt moved to the Division of Plastic Surgery, Brigham and Women's Hospital at Harvard Medical School as a Research Fellow . He continued his advanced training as a plastic surgeon in 1993 at the Bergmannsheil University Hospital . In 1994 he received recognition for the field of plastic surgery and completed his habilitation in 1994. He was recognized for hand surgery (1996) and plastic-surgical intensive medicine (1998). In 1999 Vogt was appointed adjunct professor for plastic surgery at the Ruhr University in Bochum .

In 2001 he was appointed to the C4 chair for plastic, hand and reconstructive surgery at the Hannover Medical School (MHH). Associated with this was a senior physician position at the Oststadt Hospital . He turned down an offer from the University of Zurich to the Chair of Reconstructive Surgery. In 2006 he became director of the newly built clinic for plastic, hand and reconstructive surgery on the MHH premises. There he established what was then the most modern intensive care unit for severe burn injuries with its own W2 professorship. Under his direction, regenerative plastic surgery, including the use of microneedle therapy for extensive scars in burn injuries, was further developed and nerve regeneration was investigated experimentally using spider silk. The further development of regenerative approaches in plastic and reconstructive surgery is reinforced by the establishment of the first W2 professorship for regenerative biology in plastic surgery. The establishment of the axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum) as a model animal in plastic surgery led to the establishment of a new center for research approaches in the fields of regeneration and species maintenance, the Ambystoma Bioregeneration Center.
